Tasked with Art Directing our awards show coverage, I discovered the fine art of Richard Sweeney, A UK based sculptor. His sculptures are inspired by the organic structures and growth patterns in nature, and I found their elegance very applicable to the EMMYs. I immediately thought of modern event venues and the drapery associated with large scale events. I knew this would be an interesting creative direction if I could add dynamic animation to bring it to life.

With portions of the “ET” letterform lockup as source profile shapes, I animated those in a staggered fashion (through a gradient texture) with a cloner to achieve a similar duplicating effect similar to the paper artwork. A path animation with sequins was added for a contrasting animated element.
